The Monkey Room in Liselund Manor House, known for its painted palm trees and the story of the family's pet monkey, with antique furniture and a mirror.

A little taste of the stories from the house

In the monkey room, you’ll find pink walls adorned with delicate grey and blue motifs, and a feature wall featuring forest scenes and carved palm trees. In the centre of the room hangs a mirror featuring a small monkey – a memento from the family’s time in Lisbon, where the behaviour of a nervous monkey warned them of the devastating earthquake of 1755. An enchanting testament to how the Calmette couple wove personal memories into the home’s interior design.
